The Llangollen Diesel Group and Llangollen Railway are pleased to announce a significantly increased number of diesel workings in 2010.

With four round trips on offer from a normal Day Return ticket, these days offer the haulage enthusiast excellent value for money. Specific traction for these dates will be confirmed as the date approaches but is all strictly subject to availability

1960’s Gala: 31st July – 1st August

A new event for the railway featuring an intensive timetable of steam, diesel and multiple unit operation. The railway will host atmospheric sights and sounds from this legendary era, including specially prepared locos (grime buckets at the ready), mixed traction workings (hopefully including a mouth watering, Waverley route-inspired pairing of 80072 and D5310), vintage vehicles (bikes, cars and buses) and live music. Visitors will be encouraged to attend the event in period dress to help create a real 60’s atmosphere. A real ale bar will be provided. It will be an action packed event – watch this space for more details! This event is being organised jointly by Tez Pickthall and Iain Ross – who would be happy to hear from you via the ‘contact us’ link with offers of help, exhibits and suggestions.

Diesel Weekend: 2nd - 3rd October

Making a welcome return after a two year absence, our diesel weekend will give enthusiasts the chance to sample all operational members of the LDG fleet in action. The opportunity to gain rare haulage behind the lines diesel shunter fleet is also being considered, including 08195, YE shunter “Pilkington” and the highly rateable former Birkenhead dock shunter 03162. All are subject to availability and preparation of a workable timetable at the moment. The LR is not the length and type of line where you can just bung a shunter out to pootle along at 10 mph on a passenger train without causing timetable chaos!
